Bidesh Mahata

Bidesh Mahata is a Fellow at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences and the Department of Pathology. His research focuses on steroidogenesis, cancer immunology, Type 2 immunity, immune cell-mediated steroidogenesis, and steroid-producing immune cells. The Mahata laboratory investigates the mechanisms by which immune cells synthesise and secrete steroid hormones to regulate their function, with an emphasis on the role of steroid-producing immunocytes in cancer inflammation and immunity. The lab aims to develop immunotherapy strategies based on this knowledge.

Bidesh Mahata is a Research Group Leader in the Division of Immunology, Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge. His research focuses on immune cell-mediated steroidogenesis, Type-2 immunity, and Cancer Immunology. His work explores how immune cells, particularly T helper cells, contribute to immune homeostasis and tumor progression through de novo steroid biosynthesis. He utilizes single-cell RNA sequencing and other advanced technologies to study the dynamic interactions within the tumor microenvironment and the role of steroidogenesis in immune regulation. His studies also investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying immune cell function and their implications in cancer biology.
