Steele, John

Dr John Steele is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics & Statistics at The University of New South Wales. He completed his BSc (Hons), MSc, and PhD in General Relativity at the University of Aberdeen, graduating in 1986, 1988, and 1989 respectively. After a research associate position at Monash University, he joined UNSW in 1992 as an Associate Lecturer, was granted tenure in 1998, and promoted to Lecturer in 2001 and Senior Lecturer in 2018. He served as the School's Director of Undergraduate Studies from 2007 to 2021 and was elected to the University's Academic Board in 2017. His research focuses on exact solutions of Einstein's equations, symmetries in spacetime, and the history of relativity.
