Walid Houry is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, specializing in molecular chaperones, ATP-dependent proteases, acid stress response, helicases, and ribosomal RNA processing. His research explores the mechanisms of protein folding, chaperone networks, and proteolytic systems in both bacterial and mitochondrial contexts. Houry's work includes the identification of in vivo substrates of chaperonins, the role of Hsp90 in protein complex assembly, and the regulation of acid resistance in Escherichia coli. His studies also investigate the therapeutic potential of mitochondrial proteases like ClpP in cancer treatment. Through integrative approaches, he maps chaperone interactions and elucidates their roles in cellular processes.
