Patrick T. Gunning is a Canada Research Chair and Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toronto, specializing in chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, and molecular recognition. His research focuses on developing small-molecule inhibitors targeting signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins, particularly STAT3 and STAT5, to combat cancers such as breast, lung, and leukemia. His work explores molecular mechanisms of oncogenic signaling, including chromatin remodeling, redox balance, and SH2 domain interactions. Gunning's research also investigates the therapeutic potential of coordination complexes and upconversion nanoparticles for biosensory and medicinal applications.
