Frank Wania is an environmental chemist whose research focuses on the behavior, transport, and fate of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the environment. His work explores the global distribution of contaminants, including organochlorine compounds, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and perfluorocarboxylic acids, with an emphasis on their long-range transport and accumulation in polar regions. Wania has developed models to assess the environmental persistence and fate of these chemicals, contributing to the understanding of contaminant pathways and sources, such as e-waste. His research also investigates the impact of atmospheric processes, such as temperature and precipitation, on the transport and deposition of organic pollutants.
