Irene Li
Regular biography
Dr Irene Li is a researcher at The University of Sydney, affiliated with the BIO department. Her research interests include microbial ecology, bioinformatics and computational biology, microbiology, animal diet and nutrition, and agricultural marine biotechnology. She investigates how microbial communities respond to environmental and nutritional changes, focusing on the gut microbiome of poultry and its interaction with dietary macronutrients. Her work explores the impact of carbon and nitrogen partitioning on microbial metabolism, nutrient utilisation, and waste excretion. Dr Li aims to develop precision microbiome interventions using dietary and biological strategies, with applications in animal welfare, production efficiency, and One Health outcomes. She is a member of the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute.
