Giselle Yeo

Associate Professor Giselle Yeo is affiliated with the BIO department at The University of Sydney. Her research interests include cellular interactions, such as adhesion, matrix, and cell wall, as well as regenerative medicine, particularly stem cells. She leads the Stem Cell Biotechnology Lab at the Charles Perkins Centre. Yeo completed her PhD in matrix protein biochemistry at the University of Sydney and conducted postdoctoral studies in biofunctionalisation of materials for tissue engineering. She was appointed in 2018 on a USyd Early Career Development Fellowship to establish her stem cell program. She is also the site director of the Amgen Biotech Experience program in Australia.

Giselle C. Yeo's research focuses on stem cell modulation, surface biofunctionalisation, and tropoelastin. Her work explores the role of tropoelastin in elastic fiber assembly, its impact on mesenchymal stem cell performance, and its potential as a biomaterial for tissue engineering. She investigates how tropoelastin can be used to promote vascular network formation and enhance cell adhesion through specific peptide interactions. Additionally, her research examines the mechanical properties of biofunctionalized materials and their applications in medical devices. Yeo's studies also address the challenges of stress-induced senescence in stem cells and strategies to rejuvenate their therapeutic potential.
