Emily Francis

Emily Francis (BAnVetBioSc PhD) is a Lecturer in Veterinary Parasitology at the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney. Her research focuses on veterinary infectious diseases of livestock, particularly the molecular epidemiology and diagnostics of gastrointestinal nematodes. Using next-generation sequencing approaches such as nemabiome metabarcoding and deep amplicon sequencing, she investigates parasite community structure and the emergence of anthelmintic resistance in grazing systems. Her work integrates molecular diagnostics with veterinary diagnostic laboratory datasets to develop genomic surveillance tools and decision-support resources that support veterinarians and livestock producers in managing parasite infections and drug resistance. At the University of Sydney, Emily teaches across the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Animal and Veterinary Bioscience programs and coordinates VETS6204 – Principles of Animal Disease A, a core infectious disease unit in the DVM curriculum.
