Arjun Muralidharan

Dr Arjun Muralidharan is a researcher at The University of Sydney, affiliated with the BIO department. His research interests include biochemistry and cell biology, medical biochemistry and metabolomics, central nervous system, basic pharmacology, pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, and epidemiology. Dr Muralidharan's work focuses on the molecular dissection of the interplay between chronic pain and ageing, as well as the development of stem-cell based analgesic therapies for chronic pain treatment. He is the Group Leader of the Neurobiology of Chronic Pain Research lab at SOLES. His research is supported by an NHMRC Ideas Grant.

Arjun Muralidharan, based at the University of Sydney, focuses on the study of chronic pain, ageing, and genetics. His research explores the molecular mechanisms underlying chronic pain conditions, including neuropathic and inflammatory pain, with an emphasis on the role of genetic factors and pharmacological interventions. He investigates the impact of ageing on pain perception and analgesic efficacy, as well as the genetic basis of pain responses. His work includes the development of animal models for pain research and the identification of novel therapeutic targets, such as angiotensin II type 2 receptors and 5-HT2A receptors. Muralidharan's research also examines the interplay between pain, genetics, and aging, with a focus on conditions like prostate cancer-induced bone pain and the role of cellular senescence.
