Amanda Brandon

Dr Amanda Brandon is a researcher at The University of Sydney, affiliated with the BIO department. Her work spans nutrition and dietetics, biochemistry and cell biology, clinical sciences, analytical biochemistry, cell metabolism, proteomics and intermolecular interactions, signal transduction, endocrinology, and systems biology. Dr Brandon completed her PhD in 2007 at the University of New South Wales under Dr Karen Gibson, focusing on the consequences of an altered intrauterine environment on offspring health. She then conducted postdoctoral research at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research with Profs. Ted Kraegen and Gregory Cooney, investigating obesity and insulin resistance. In 2016, she joined The University of Sydney, continuing this research theme and, in 2019, joined Prof. Stephen Simpson's group to explore the role of nutrition in metabolic health and aging.

Amanda Brandon's research focuses on the interplay between obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, insulin resistance, nutrition, and ageing. Her work explores how dietary factors and metabolic pathways influence insulin sensitivity and metabolic health. Brandon investigates mechanisms such as amino acid balance, ceramide metabolism, and mitochondrial function in the context of obesity and insulin resistance. She also examines the role of nutrient excess, AMPK regulation, and adipose tissue in metabolic disorders. Her studies highlight the importance of dietary interventions and molecular targets for improving metabolic outcomes.
