Regular biography
Alice Shirley is an Associate Lecturer in Agricultural Science and Industries (Education-Focused) at The University of Sydney, specialising in livestock production, animal behaviour, and welfare. She supports the development of the next generation of animal and agricultural science graduates through engaged and industry-aligned teaching. Her research focuses on integrating advanced monitoring technologies with animal behaviour and welfare science to enhance precision livestock management. During her PhD, she investigated the use of on-animal sensors, specifically reticulorumen temperature devices, to develop data-driven strategies for mitigating heat stress and improving individual animal production and welfare. Alice co-ordinates and contributes to core units of study within the Agricultural Science degree, including Professional Development, and the Animal and Veterinary Bioscience degree.
