Sung Ju Hwang

Sung Ju Hwang is an associate professor in the Kim Jaechul Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence and School of Computing at KAIST. Prior to joining KAIST, he was an assistant professor at the School of Electric and Computer Engineering at UNIST and a postdoctoral research associate at Disney Research. He earned his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked under the supervision of Professor Kristen Grauman and collaborated with Professor Fei Sha. His research focuses on generative AIs, self-evolving AI, AI for scientific discovery, and on-device learning. He is also the CEO of DeepAuto, a company developing self-evolving agentic AI platforms.

Sung Ju Hwang is a researcher at KAIST specializing in machine learning. His work focuses on advancing learning paradigms such as lifelong learning, few-shot learning, and continual learning. He explores methods to enhance model adaptability and efficiency, including dynamic network expansion, label propagation, and quantization optimization. Hwang also investigates federated learning, semi-supervised learning, and graph representation learning, emphasizing robustness and scalability. His research integrates large language models and generative modeling techniques to improve data augmentation and pseudo-label refinement. Additionally, he contributes to speech synthesis and multi-path vision transformers for dense prediction tasks.
