João Miguel Penedones is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. He leads the Fields and Strings Laboratory. Penedones studied physics at the University of Porto, obtaining his degree in 2002. He earned a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2003 and a PhD from Universidade do Porto and école Normale Supérieure, Paris, in 2007. His doctoral thesis focused on 'High Energy Scattering in the AdS/CFT Correspondence.' He held postdoctoral positions at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Perimeter Institute before becoming a Research Fellow at Universidade do Porto from 2011 to 2016. In 2016, he was appointed as an Associate Professor at EPFL.
