Regular biography
Daniele Mari is an Adjunct Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the Physics department. His research interests include metallurgy, hard materials, steels, thermal treatment, shape memory alloys, metal matrix composites, mechanical spectroscopy, neutron diffraction, granular materials, and microwave heating. Mari joined EPFL in 1980 and graduated in Physics in 1986. He obtained his Ph.D. from EPFL in 1991, working on metal-ceramic composites. From 1992 to 1993, he conducted post-doctoral research at MIT on shape-memory alloys. He has also held industrial roles and supervised research projects at EPFL. Since 2013, he has served as Deputy Director of the Physics School and was appointed Adjunct Professor in 2022.
