Berend Smit

Berend Smit is a Full Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the Department of Chemistry (CHEM). His research focuses on the application and development of novel molecular simulation techniques, particularly in energy-related applications. He has authored textbooks on molecular simulations and carbon capture and sequestration. Smit holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering and Physics from the Technical University in Delft and a PhD in Chemistry from Utrecht University. He has held academic and research positions at institutions including the University of Amsterdam and the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2014, he has directed the Energy Center at EPFL.
