Regular biography
Viesturs Simanis is a Professor Emeritus at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the BIO department. He holds an honorary professorship at the School of Life Sciences. His research focuses on the cell cycle, particularly kinase and phosphatase functions, as well as cytokinesis using fission yeast as a model organism. Simanis earned his degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College London and completed his doctoral studies under David Lane at Imperial College, London University. He conducted postdoctoral research with Paul Nurse at London and Oxford. He has been a group leader at ISREC since 1988 and was appointed Associate Professor at EPFL in 2006.
