Sebastian Maerkl is an Associate Professor in the BIO department at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. His research interests include microfluidics, cell-free synthetic biology, transcription factor biophysics, and molecular diagnostics. Prof. Maerkl received B.S. degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Fairleigh-Dickinson University and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from California Institute of Technology. He joined EPFL in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2015. His lab focuses on the intersection of micro-engineering, systems biology, synthetic biology, and molecular diagnostics. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications and holds six patents.
