Patrick Barth

Patrick Barth is an Associate Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the BIO department. His research focuses on the molecular principles and mechanisms regulating protein and cellular signaling, particularly at the interface of biophysics, chemical, structural, computational, and cell biology. His work includes designing protein systems with novel biosensing and signaling functions for synthetic biology and engineered cell therapeutic applications, as well as predicting the effects of genetic variations on protein structure/function for personalized cancer medicine. He is also interested in deciphering the molecular underpinnings regulating signaling and transport across biological membranes.

Patrick Barth is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the Swiss Federal School of Technology, Lausanne. His research focuses on protein structure, protein design, protein folding, computational biophysics, and membrane proteins. His work involves developing computational methods for modeling and designing macromolecules, particularly in the context of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), transmembrane helical proteins, and membrane protein structures with complex topologies. Barth's research also explores the functional dynamics of GPCRs, their allosteric signal transductions, and their roles in drug discovery. His studies contribute to understanding protein-ligand interactions, protein-ionization behavior, and the structural basis of diseases such as autism.
