Regular biography
Kathryn Hess Bellwald is a Full Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the BIO department. Her research interests include homotopy theory, category theory, and the applications of algebraic topology in computer science, neuroscience, cancer research, and chemical engineering. She has developed methods based on topological data analysis for various scientific domains and has received several teaching awards at EPFL, including the Crédit Suisse teaching prize in 2011 and the Polysphère d'Or in 2013. She is also the Academic Director of the Euler programme and holds multiple leadership roles within EPFL.
