Regular biography
Didier Trono is a Full Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the BIO department. His research focuses on interactions between viruses and their hosts, including studies on pathogens such as human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis B virus. He has developed a HIV-based delivery system used in human gene therapy and has shifted his research towards epigenetics, exploring the impact of retroelements on development and physiology, with applications in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. Trono has a long-standing academic career, including positions at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, and he has contributed to the establishment of the EPFL School of Life Sciences.
