Carl Petersen

Carl Petersen is a Full Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the BIO department. His research focuses on the functional operation of neuronal circuits in awake mice during quantified behavior. Petersen established the Laboratory of Sensory Processing at the Brain Mind Institute, where he investigates sensory perception and associative learning at the level of individual neurons and their synaptic interactions. His academic career includes postdoctoral positions at the University of California San Francisco and the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, followed by a tenure at EPFL since 2003. He has also served as Director of the Brain Mind Institute from 2019 to 2022.
